PASTOR STOLE THE SHOW

-

One of the most anticipated weddings of the decade took place on May 19 and it was larger than life, as expected. But the most unexpected was the presence of an all black choir and an African- American pastor, Michael Curry. People gushed about how Megan Markle paid a tribute to her roots by calling them in as a part of her family, who are black, could not be there.

The choir was a delight. But the show stealer was Pastor Curry. His reverberating speech — at least some thought so before it went on and on — just didn’t seem to stop. He started off by quoting Martin Luther King, the civil rights icon. “We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. And when we do that, we will be able to make of this old world a new world. Love is the only way.”

This was just the beginning. His extempore speech, addressing the guests as “brothers and sisters”, also highlighted social justice issues, LGBT rights and more.

The Royal family was taken aback. The Queen wasn’t amused, Prince William was seen cracking up and Kate Middleton couldn’t keep a straight face. Princess Beatrice and Eugenie were both seen giggling.

Sky News journalist Mark Austin reportedly said: “Lovely moment as the preacher takes the Royals to the edge of their comfort zone”.

Pastor Curry became an instant hit on social media. Twitter had some fantastic memes and responses.
