PM to launch campaign for LS mid- June from Varanasi

- AMITA VERMA

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off his campaign for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from his constituency Varanasi.

The Prime Minister, according to party sources, is likely to visit Varanasi in mid- June and he will be accompanied by BJP president Amit Shah.

With the rally in Varanasi, the Prime Minister have an eye on Bihar, which is an adjoining state.

“A booth- level conference of the Kashi region is being held on May 30 and this can be termed as a preparatory exercise for the campaign. A series of meetings are already underway under the supervision of party leader Sunil Ojha”, said a source.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Purvanchal Expressway in June and the project is expected to give a major boost to the development of eastern Uttar Pradesh, known as Purvanchal.

Party leaders claim that Varanasi has been lucky for the BJP as well as the Prime Minister and that by launching the campaign from his own constituency, Mr

Modi will put the focus back on Uttar Pradesh.

“After Karnataka, where we lost by a wafer- thin margin, we have decided to ensure that the numbers are up to the expectations in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. We are looking at Uttar Pradesh to give us a major boost, where numbers are concerned,” the party functionary said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing a rally in Baghpat on May 27, where he will lay the foundation for the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. At the rally, which will mark four years of the Narendra Modi government, the Prime Minister is expected to list the achievements of his government.

The rally is perfectly timed with the byelections in Kairana and Noorpur, the polling for which will take place on May 28.
