Hottest day again in Delhi, at 46° C, and likely to go up

New Delhi: The national capital on Tuesday recorded its hottest day of the season with the mercury soaring to 46° C in some parts of the city. It is likely to be as hot even on Wednesday, as per forecast. However, there is a possibilit­y of thunderstr­om. Strong surface winds are expected to sweep Delhi on Wednesday and the temperatur­e may soar.

The national capital on Tuesday recorded its hottest day of the season with the mercury soaring to 46° C in some parts of the city.

The Safdarjung observator­y, whose recording is considered official, registered a maximum temperatur­e of 44° C Celsius, four notches above the season's average, a Met department official said.

At the Palam Observator­y, the maximum temperatur­e was even higher, at 46 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperatur­e was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius, normal for this part of the season.

It is likely to be as hot even on Wednesday, as per forecast. However, there is a possibilit­y of thunder lighting. Strong surface winds are expected to sweep Delhi on Wednesday and the temperatur­e may soar up.

The MeT department’s forecast said that there is a possibilit­y of dust storm on Thursday, which can bring down the mercury to 42° Celsius.

The humidity levels on Tuesday oscillated between 24 and 23 per cent. Day temperatur­es are also expected to rise in the next few days.
