Pak: Abbasi, Shah fail to agree on caretaker PM

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and opposition leader in National Assembly Khurshid Shah on Tuesday once again failed to evolve consensus over the caretaker PM.

This was the fifth meeting between the two leaders on the issue ahead of the July general elections.

Mr Shah said a thorough discussion was held with the premier after which, “the government is responsibl­e to take final decision.” He said that names of the nominees for PM have been given to Mr Abbasi. Another meeting is likely in two or three days, he added.

Mr Shah complained: “You ( Mr Abbasi) and Nawaz Sharif had said this several times that names given by Khurshid Shah will be final, but you are now retracting your statement.” In a response, PM assured him to talk to senior leadership in this regard. Earlier, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League ( Nawaz) had finalized the names of Nasirul Mulk, Tassaduq Jilani and Ishrat Hussain for caretaker

Prime Minister while Pakistan People’s Party ( PPP) suggested names of Zaka Ashraf and Jalil Abbas Jilani.

The Pakistan Tehrik- eInsaf ( PIT) had finalised the names of Dr Ishrat Hussain, Tassaduq Jilani and Abdul Razzaq Dawood, while, Jamaat- eIslami ( JI) had finalised the name of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan for the caretaker PM. The PTI has categorica­lly rejected the names finalised by the PPP. PTI spokespers­on Fawad Chaudhry said that the PPP has proposed two names Zaka Ashraf and Jalil Abbas for caretaker premier.
