Heatwave likely to last till May 27

New Delhi: Northern and central India may not see any respite from soaring mercury this week as the Met department on Wednesday expected the heatwave to continue till May 27. It has also sounded a redcoded alert for Haryana, Rajasthan and west UP.
The Indian Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued a heat wave warning for the next four to five days for several states, including Delhi- NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan and said that the temperature in these areas will be above 45 degrees Celsius.
In view of scorching heat wave conditions, the deputy commissioner Gurgaon announced that all government schools will function from 8 am to 1.30 pm from May 25 to June 1.
The city witnessed a hot day on Wednesday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures settling at 43 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.
The met department further said that parts of Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan will also experience dust storm on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 43 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal for this part of the season. The minimum temperature settled at 26.7 degrees Celsius. The humidity in air oscillated between 44 and 25 per cent.
On Tuesday, the national capital recorded its hottest day of the season with the mercury soaring to 46 degrees Celsius in some parts of the city. The Safdarjung observatory registered a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season’s average, while the minimum temperature settled at 26.2 degrees Celsius.
