After securing the Supreme Court orders to get bungalows allotted to former chief ministers vacated, the UP estate department is now eyeing the bungalows allotted to various trusts.

“A large number of bungalows have been allotted over a period of time for memorials and trusts. Most of them do not even pay the rent and we will target them once the chief ministers vacate their bungalows,” said an estate department official.

Sprawling bungalows have been allotted in trusts named after former chief minister late Veer Bahadur Singh and late Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna.

Socialist leader Raj Narain also has a bungalow for a trust named after him.

Former BJP MP Kusum Rai has a bungalow in the name of a trust named after her father Mahatam Rai.

Spacious bungalows have been allotted for the Lohia Trust and Janeshwar Misra trust.

Besides, a number of smaller houses have been allotted for various societies and social organisations.

Veteran Congress leader Ammar Rizvi also has a bungalow allotted to him in the name of an NGO.

According to a government official, “Grabbing government bungalows by forming a trust has been an easy way out for most political leaders but the Supreme Court has now taken a firm stand and we can also take action on this issue”.
