Cycle paths near IIT station

Delhi Metro Magenta Line has been extended from Janakpuri to Kalkaji and will be made open to public on May 29. At 29 metres, the five- level new Hauz Khas station is the deepest station on the network, whose tunnel was bored below the existing one on the Yellow Line.

The present station at busy Hauz Khas ( HUDA City Centre- Samayapur Badli) is 17- metre deep. For the construction of the new station, it was not possible to go below the existing station, as the foundation is 32 metre and there is the foundation of the flyover on Outer Ring Road also, a senior DMRC official said. The 25.6- km Magenta Line corridor will enhance connectivity between west and south Delhi and also cut travel time from Janakpuri to Noida. Similar relief will also be experienced by commuters travelling from Delhi to Gurgaon as the Green Line will be extending its InderokMundka corridor next month and will ply from Mundka to Bahadurgarh, reducing the travel grind.

Some of the stations on the upcoming Janakpuri West- Kalkaji Mandir section of the Magenta line have drop- points for autorickshaws and cars, a DMRC official said.

Separate auto and car drop off facilities have been made at the entry points. All the stations have bus stands within 100 metres, he added.

At Vasant Vihar, Panchsheel Park and Nehru Enclave, auto stand facilities have been put in place while at IIT, cycle paths have been created so that the students from IIT can cycle to the station. At all stations, there will be provision for the parking of vehicles of handicapped passengers, said the official.
