Deliberations on report completed
Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday chaired the meeting of standing committee of Inter- State Council ( ISC) and completed discussion on all the 273 recommendations of the Punchhi Commission. These will now be sent to the InterState Council, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for a final decision. This was the 13th such meeting of the standing committee of the ISC.
The standing committee examined in detail various recommendations of the Punchhi Commission related to Centre- state on environment, natural resources and infrastructure. It also looked into matters of socio- economic development, public policy and good governance.
The Punchhi Commission was notified in 2005 and submitted its report in 2010. The recommendations of the Punchhi Commission, which are contained in seven Volumes pertain to History of Centre- State relations in India, constitutional governance and management of CentreState relations at different levels. The 67 recommendations on “Constitutional Governance and the Management of CentreState Relations” of the report were considered by the standing committee in its 11th meeting held on in April last year while 118 recommendations were considered by the standing committee in its 12th meeting held in November, 2017.
Friday’s meeting concluded successfully after over two hours of deliberations.
