- AGE CORRESPONDENT

After unveiling in China a few months ago, Vivo has finally brought the X21 to the Indian shores. Known to be the first smartphone in the world to feature an in- display fingerprint sensor, one can buy it in India officially for a price of ` 35,990. The X21 will be exclusive to Flipkart.

The X21 is Vivo’s flagship offering for the Indian market. The smartphone’s headlining features is the presence of an in- display fingerprint scanner that sits in the bottom half of the display. The sensor uses optical technology to read the fingerprint and authenticate unlock requests. Just like conventional Android smartphones, the fingerprint sensor can be used to unlock the phone as well as apps. Vivo has also baked in the Face Wake facial recognition system that relies on an IR fill light as well as 3D depth sensing front camera to unlock even in darker conditions.

The phone is made out of a glass- metal combo. The smartphone is built around the Snapdragon 660 chipset accompanying 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The device runs on Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out- of- the- box. There’s a 6.28- inch Super AMOLED panel in an aspect ratio of 19: 9, with a notch on top. Funtouch OS 4.0 also brings several navigational gestures, getting rid of the buttons. In terms of photography, the handset sports a 12MP+ 5MP dual camera setup with PDAF. There’s a 12MP front camera that can shoot selfies in bokeh mode, depending on AI algorithms. The device draws its power from a 3200mAh battery, which also supports fast charging through a micro- USB port. The handset also supports Bluetooth 5.0. It comes in black colour variant.

The Vivo X21 is officially supported by Google for testing the Android P Developer Preview.
