Forty- five- year- old golfer Vishal Singh of Jaipur fired a four- under- 68 to take the opening round honours at the PGTI Feeder Tour event being played at the Aravalli Golf Club in Faridabad on Monday

Delhi’s Shaurya Singh and Maniram Sharma of Karnal occupied tied second place on two- under- 70.

Vishal, a former winner on the PGTI, began by dropping a shot on the first hole but soon made up with three birdies between the seventh and the 12th. Singh’s second bogey on the 15th was followed by a terrific run of birdies on the last three holes.

Vishal said, “I didn’t have the most ideal start but I managed to come back well with a fourunder on the back- nine. The birdies on the last three holes were a huge morale- booster. The strong finish today has given me a good launch- pad for the next two days.

“I excelled with the chip- putts today making as many as five chip- putt birdies. Prior to this week, I missed the cut in all six events I played this season. So this round comes just at the right time for me and gives me the much- needed self- belief to turn things around.”

Shaurya Singh produced a bogey- free 70 while Maniram Sharma signed for three birdies and a bogey in his round of 70 as both trailed the leader by two shots.

Among seven golfers in tied fourth at one- under- 71 was Gurugram- based Dhruv Sheoran who won the seasonopener at Chhawla in Delhi last week.
