March 15, in which over 43,000 candidates were selected. However, the Delhi high court had asked the DoE “to ensure that any unfilled seat under the EWS quota be filled from among the pending applications for the academic year 201718.”

The high court was hearing a petition on the unfilled seats for the academic year 2017- 18 after almost 18,000 seats under the category remained vacant. The issue had come to light after many parents complained to the DoE and on the admissions-nursery. com, the online forum for the parent community.

Following this, activist Sumit Vohra had sent a complaint to the department about the multiple entries.

According to guidelines, 25 per cent seats are supposed to be reserved in all schools for the category and candidates cannot be allotted more than one school. It also states that multiple or duplicate entries shall be liable to cancellation of admission of the candidate.

While those belonging to families with annual income less than Rs 1 lakh can seek admission under the EWS category, the DG category applicants include SC, ST, OBC, noncreamy layer, physically challenged, orphan, transgender, and all children living with or affected by HIV.
