Members Front promises change in DDCA
With the courts ensuring that elections to the Delhi and District Cricket Association will be held this year on the basis of voters casting their ballot directly and not through proxies, there has been a rush to join the field that appears to be growing by the day, from TV anchor Rajat Sharma to former India allrounder Madan Lal, and others.
The Members’ Front, headed by Supreme Court senior advocate and Supreme Court Bar Association president Vikas Singh has also thrown its hat in the ring, promising change not only in the way cricket in the capital is run, but also in the running of the DDCA itself as a club.
“It is part of my mission to steer the DDCA towards professionalism, transparency and excellence,” Singh said here on Wednesday. “The aim is to bring complete transparency in the selection of teams that represent Delhi. At present merit and talent are forced to take a back seat at times. With India being the cricketing capital of the world and Delhi being the capital city, the DDCA should reflect the highest values and amenities thereby benefitting cricketers as well as members.
“Having seen from close quarters the best cricketing facilities as well as the manner in which clubs are maintained, I aim to contribute and inculcate certain value systems so that the DDCA becomes a world class cricket body with facilities comparable to any in the world. It is important that members and fans become proud of the Delhi cricket structure and its facilities,” he added. The Front includes former India stumper Surinder Khanna who is the candidate for cricket director, and a number of long- time DDCA members who have come together to form the panel.
They include besides Singh and Khanna, Arvinder Singh Lovely ( vice- presidential candidate), Sandeep Chaudhary ( gen secy’s post), Dr. Ahmed Tamim ( jt secy candidate), Bhagwan Verma ( treasurer), Devyani Singh ( woman director), Rajender Kumar Tandon, Rajendra Kumar, Praveen Soni, Sanjiv Bali, and Sunil K. Goel ( all candidate for directors’ posts).
Elections to the DDCA’s executive committee will be held on June 30 at the Kotla as per Lodha Committee recommendations. They will be conducted by Justice Vikramjit Sen, Administrator at DDCA, under the supervision of electoral officer Rakesh Mehta, former state election commissioner, Delhi and Chandigarh.
