Allowances of govs revised by Centre
Four months after increasing salaries of governors, the Centre has now issued fresh guidelines for their allowances related to expenses on tours, hospitality, entertainment and furnishings. The revision of allowances of the governors has been done after a period of four years. Governors salaries were increased to ` 3.5 lakh per month four months ago.
The home ministry in its notification said that the West Bengal governor will be entitled to the highest allowance ` 1.81 crore for tour, hospitality, entertainment and other expenses. He will also get an additional allowance of ` 80 lakh for renewal of furnishings and ` 72.06 lakh for the maintenance of the two Raj Bhavans at Kolkata and Darjeeling.
Similarly, Tamil Nadu governor will get ` 1.66 crore as allowances for tour, hospitality, entertainment and other expenses. Tamil Nadu governor has two Raj Bhavans in Chennai and Ooty respectively, will also get additional ` 7.50 lakh as allowance for renewal of furnishings and ` 6.5 crore as allowance for these two Raj Bhavans.
Salaries and allowances for the governors are given by the respective state governments. The Bihar governor will be paid ` 1.62 crore as allowances for tour, hospitality, entertainment and other expenses while he would be paid an addition ` 62 lakh as allowance for renewal of furnishings and ` 80.2 lakh as allowance for the maintenance of the Patna Raj Bhavan.
Similarly, Maharashtra governor will get ` 1.14 crore as allowances for tour, hospitality, entertainment and other expenses, ` 26.7 lakh as allowance for renewal of furnishings and ` 1.8 crore as allowance for the maintenance of the three Raj Bhavans, located in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. Karnataka Governor will get ` 1.05 crore as allowances for tour, hospitality, entertainment and other expenses, ` 6.5 lakh as allowance for renewal of furnishings and ` 38.2 lakh as allowance for the maintenance of the Raj Bhavan, located in Bengaluru. Rajasthan governor will get ` 93 lakh as allowance for tour, hospitality, entertainment and other expenses.
