All state govs to meet in Delhi today

A two- day conference of state governors will start in the capital on Monday with focus on issues like internal security and Clean India mission among other issues on the agenda. The conference is being held in Rashtrapat­i Bhavan.

This is going be the 49th conference of governors and lieutenant- governors and the second one which President Ram Nath Kovind would preside over. The first such conference was also held at Rashtrapat­i Bhavan in 1949 and was presided over by C Rajagopala­chari, who was the then governor general of India.

This year’s governors conference will be inaugurate­d by the President and divided into various sessions which will discuss some important thematic issues. Senior ministers and officials will brief the governors and give presentati­ons on important programmes of the Centre along with a detailed session on the prevailing internal security scenario in the country.

Among those who will address the two- day conference include vice- president Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Rajnath Singh, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and vice chairman and the CEO of NITI Aayog. There would be a session on higher education in various State Universiti­es and skill developmen­t for employabil­ity. The Gujarat governor will be the convenor of this session.

Presentati­ons will be made by the higher education secretary and Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion secretary during this session.

Governors and lieutenant­governors will discuss steps taken on the report ‘ Rajyapal – Vikas Ke Rajdoot: Catalytic Role of Governors as Agents for Change in Society’.
