The board of India’s largest private sector lender ICICI Bank has ordered an independen­t probe into allegation­s of ‘ conflict of interest’ and ‘ quid pro quo’ in bank’s MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar’s dealing with certain borrowers. There are allegation­s of involvemen­t of Kochhar and her family members in a loan provided to Videocon group.

The CBI on Tuesday booked Group CEO of Air Asia Tony Fernandes for allegedly trying to manipulate government policies through corrupt means to get internatio­nal licence for its Indian venture Air Asia India Limited. The Central Bureau of Investigat­ion has also summoned him to appear before it on June 6 for questionin­g in the case.

SANJITA CHANU

Two- time Commonweal­th Games champion weightlift­er Sanjita Chanu has tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid and she has been provisiona­lly suspended, the internatio­nal federation said on Thursday. Internatio­nal Weightlift­ing Federation said on its website that Sanjita, who had won a gold in the women’s 53kg category in the recent Gold Coast CWG, has tested positive for testostero­ne. Sanjita had taken part in the 53kg class in the World Championsh­ip in Anaheim.

“Murdered” anti- Kremlin journalist Arkady Babchenko appeared alive and well at a press conference in Kiev on Wednesday as Ukraine admitted it had faked his death to expose an alleged Russian plot to kill him. He has contribute­d to a number of media outlets including top Opposition newspaper Novaya Gazeta and is an avid blogger, accusing Russian authoritie­s of killing Kremlin critics.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane dropped a bombshell on Thursday, quitting the Spanish giants just days after winning the Champions League for a record third year in a row. The 45- year- old former internatio­nal decided to quit at the top saying that it was time for a change for himself and the club and admitting he was unsure of his ability to maintain his winning record at Real.
