Talks key to end issues, says BJP’s kisan leader

A day before Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, where several farmers’ organisation are gathering to observe the first death anniversary of the six farmers killed in police shooting, BJP’s Kisan Morcha president Virendra Singh “Mast” on Tuesday appealed to farmers organisations, including those affiliated to other political outfits, that dialogue plays a key role in resolving any issue.

Asserting that farmers issue has now dominated the political discourse, Mr Singh said no Prime Minister other than Narendra Modi has taken up farmers issues so diligently and asked the opponents that they should indulge in “healthy protest” not resort to violence.

Asserting that the agitation is part of a democratic process, the BJP leader took on those who had protested against the Centre by throwning farm produce on roads, saying no “genuine farmer” will take up violence or damage their products in the name of agitation. Mr Singh said, for the first time, the country’s 51 per cent Budget was alloacted to schemes related to the farmers and farming and allied communities.

“Farmers issues did not crop up in one day or can be resolved in one day... farming is not like smuggling or a business where you see profit or loss in one day... Modi government has taken and implemented many intiatives for the farming and allied sectors which are benefitting the sector,” said the Bhadoi MP.
