Sporting lift Raghubir cricket title

Incisive bowling by left- arm spinner Harshit Kaushik ( 6/ 37) and an unbeaten 74 by Mohit Ahlawat enabled Sporting Club beat Collage Sports Club by six wickets in the final of the 43rd Lala Raghubir Singh hot weather cricket tournament at the Modern School grounds in the capital on Tuesday.

Chasing 190, Sporting Club reached the target in 33.2 overs as Ahlawat and Rohit Sharma ( 59 not out) added 123 in their unbeaten fifth wicket partnershi­p.

Ahlawat’s 60- ball knock was studded with five fours and as many sixes while Rohit struck six fours and two sixes in his 59ball stay. Yash Kothari chipped in with 32.

Earlier, Sahbaz Ahamad ( 70) and Jayanshu Chaturvedi ( 42) helped Collage Sports Club raise 189 in 35.2 overs. Kshitiz Sharma added 28.

Kaushik was wrecker- in chief while Yogesh Kumar took 2/ 40 for Sporting Club.

The winners took home a purse of ` 2 lakh while runners- up received ` 1 lakh. Losing semifinali­sts RP Academy and Delhi Blues had ` 50,000 each.

Kaushik was named man of the match and best bowler of the tournament. The best batsman award went to Collage Sports Club captain Naman Sharma and man of the tournament was Pragam Sharma.

SCORES Collage Sports Club 189 in 35.2 overs ( Sahbaz Ahamad 70, Jayanshu Chaturvedi 42, Kshitiz Sharma 28, Harshit Kaushik 6/ 37, Yogesh Kumar 2/ 40) lost to Sporting Club 192/ 4 in 33.2 overs ( Mohit Ahlawat 74 not out, Rohit Sharma 59 not out, Yash Kothari 32, Vikas Hathwala 1/ 29).
