Prostitutes are better than govt officials; at least they take money and do their work... — Surendra Singh,

UP BJP MLA

BJP MLA Surendra Singh has created another controversy — this one much more serious that his previous ones — by saying that “prostitutes are better than government officials”.

The legislator from Ballia also asked people to thrash bureaucrats if they demand bribes.

Speaking at a public function, Mr Singh said, “Prostitutes are better than government officials; at least they take money and do their work and also dance on the stage. But these officials, even after taking money, don’t do their work. There is no guarantee that the work will be done if you have paid them.”

He also said, “Ghoos mangey to ghoosa do, nahin maaney to joota do. ( If an officer does not agree to do his work, teach him a lesson by giving him a punch and if he still does not agree, thrash him with shoes).”

Mr Singh’s comments this time have earned him the ire of IAS officers.

A senior IAS officer said on condition of anonymity that such lawmakers should be pulled up for using objectionable language. He said that the UP IAS Association would take up the issue and then meet the chief minister.

Mr Singh has a history of making controversial statements.

He first announced that the 2019 general elections would be a contest between “Islam and Bhagwan”.
