June 7 Naga talks postponed after resistance

- MANOJ ANAND

The scheduled talks for June 7 between the six Naga National Political Groups ( NNPGs) and the government of India has been rescheduled for the next date which will be decided in a day or two.

Disclosing that Centre has decided to reschedule the talks after the resistance created following a “mysterious raid” of the Assam Rifle at the residence of NNPGs co- convenor on June 2 in Nagaland, authoritative security sources in the home ministry told this newspaper that indications are that NNPGs would join the talks once again. The working committee of the group had decided to suspend the ongoing talks with New Delhi after the group’s co- convenor Visosieihou Nagi’s house in Jotsoma village of Nagaland’s Kohima district was raided by Assam Rifle.

Informing that major apex Naga bodies of Nagaland has appealed to the NNPGs working committee to continue the talks, security sources said that NNPGs have responded positively to their appeal.

The apex tribal bodies which met at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur on Tuesday mounted pressure on NNPGs not to break the ongoing peace process.

The meeting of apex tribal bodies however expressed displeasure over the “raids conducted by security forces,” and resolved to urge the Government of India to show its commitment to the ground rules of the ceasefire and the ongoing political negotiation in action. The representatives of the Ao Senden, Angami Public Organisation, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Chang Khullen Satchang, Central Nagaland Tribes Council, Eastern Naga People’s Organ- isation, Gorkha Union Dimapur, Khiamnungan Tribal Council, Konyak Union, Kuki Inpi Nagaland, Lotha Hoho, Nagaland Tribes Cou- ncil, Nagaland GB Federation & all units, Pochury Hoho, Phom People’s Council, Rengma Hoho, Sumi Hoho, United Sangtam Likhum Bumji, Yimchunger Tribal Council, and Zeliang People’s Organisation attended the consultative meet which was convened by the NNPGs to apprise them on the current political dialogue between the Government India and NNPGs. of
