3 arrested for dacoity in Panipat

The Delhi police’s crime branch arrested three persons, who were allegedly involved in a daylight armed dacoity at a businessma­n’s house in Haryana’s Panipat, in Dwarka area, the police said on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Randeep Rathi ( 21), Sumit Rathi ( 24) and Mohit Malik ( 19), all three are being said to be residents of Panipat, Haryana.

According to the police, five men entered the house of the businessma­n on Monday at around 11.30 am and looted ` 52,000 cash, around 460 grams gold and 1.5 kg silver from his wife at gunpoint. The arrests were made within 36 hours of the crime.

The police said that the crime branch received a tip- off on Tuesday that the dacoits would come near Dwarka Sector 13 to dispose the looted jewellery.

The team laid a trap and the trio was successful­ly arrested with a bag containing the valuables. Upon interrogat­ion, the three men confessed to their involvemen­t in the crime. The police recovered 400 gram of gold jewellery, including eight bengles, nine rings, four necklaces etc. Approximat­ely 1.5 kg silver jewellery, including 20 silver coins, were also recovered.

The accused belong to middle class farmer families residing in different villages of Panipat district and were executives of a multi- level marketing company at Sector 30 in Kurukshetr­a.

All three accused were lured by an acquaintan­ce of the victim, and one of their seniors in the company. In order to earn quick and easy money, the accused men accepted their offer and committed the dacoity, said a senior police official.
