In the world of fashion, the only way to go forward is by experimentation. Saree has been a part of Indian culture and heritage since 2800- 1800 BC. From then till now, the saree has been experimented with in various ways. Nowadays, saree blouses have come into focus. Going from traditional, a lot of different styles have been introduced. From off- shoulder, fringe blouse, to spaghetti strap blouse. This season women and celebrities alike are playing with the high neck and shirt style blouses. They come embellished with stone work, kundan work etc. Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan etc have been seen sporting this trend.

This trend is not only ravishing and classy but very contemporary. Designer Deepta Raghunath says, “High neck , shirt, blazer collared and boxy tee fit kind of blouses are trending and I think it’s a brilliant concept for a contemporary style.” While sporting high neck shirt style blouse, ensure that the blouse is seen rather than covered up. “The Gujarati way of wearing is saree is the perfect way to draw focus to your blouse. You try wearing a shirt blouse with a pallu over the shoulder. A nice touch would be to add an interesting belt to the mix and to hold the pallu in place. If you opt for an embellished blouse avoid a neck piece and go heavy on the earring.” says stylist Zohara Jamal who also stresses on the fact that its is not necessary to wear a strapless or backless blouse to look sexy. The thing with these blouses is that although they are modern, they have the ability to look sexy as well. Designer Reshma Kunhi says, “Try avoiding an embellished saree with a embellished blouse. With this trend, you even go print on print. like a checkered blouse with stripped saree or floral blouse with stripped sari or vice versa.”

Every year, an old trend comes back in new and improved way. Deepta adds, “Highlights for these blouses would be volume sleeves and the ruffles and the little detailing to blouses such as trims or the opening the neck shape.” Whenever a trend is introduced on the runway, everyone wants to try. With these tips, you can choose which best suits your body type. “Chinese collared blouse is big no- no for people who have short necks and its a big yes for long necks. Bustier women should avoid closed high neck blouses. However they can try the trend if it have V- shaped Chinese collar or a round or matka cut neck. This can we worn by short necks as well as it gives an illusion of a longer neck.” The trend of wearing sarees to office parties is dying out. You can try a shirt style blouse for you next party. A heavy work one is perfect for a sangeet or mehendi.
