She claimed that the civic body is committed to provide fool proof security to the students and ensure a reliable surveillance system to overcome incidents of lapses in the security.

The CCTV cameras will be installed in as many as 406 school buildings, including buildings of double shift schools.

Earlier, the education department had installed CCTV cameras in 62 buildings. “It has been decided to install 488 CCTV cameras, eight each in 61 schools. About 2,004 CCTV cameras, 12 each in 167 schools and 1,856 cameras, 16 each in 116 schools depending upon the number of classrooms, area of the school and extent of vulnerability in a particular building open to sides,” said Ms Rai.

She added the principals of the schools have been authorised to monitor the recording and take an appropriate action in case of any lapse. They will be responsible for any glitch in the system and loss.

“The agency hired for installation of CCTV cameras is bound to complete installation within four months of award of work that is why it has been allowed to carry on preliminary spade works.

The agency will also be responsible for warranty and annual maintenance of the CCTVs for a period of five years at no cost,” Ms Rai added.

She said CCTV installation will help in overcoming fear in the students due to incidences of damage in number of schools in the NCR and it will also make parents of the students satisfied about the children’s safety in SDMC schools.
