Kohli takes yo- yo test ahead of England tour
Bengaluru, June 15: India captain Virat Kohli, along with former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, on Friday underwent fitness tests to determine his availability for the tour of United Kingdom starting June 27.
A neck injury sustained during the Indian Premier League hampered Kohli’s build- up for the UK tour and he had to pull out of a planned county stint with Surrey this month.
Kohli along with Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the injured Kedar Jadhav ( not in any squad meant for UK) took the yo- yo tests — the basic fitness parameter set by the team management before any tour — at the National Cricket Academy ground, in the presence of national team trainer Shankar Basu.
Jasprit Bumrah, Siddharth Kaul, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Manish Pandey were also seen taking the test.
Kohli didn’t look in any discomfort as he matched paces with Dhoni during the test but was seen feeling his shoulder and back region after the test’s completion.
The yo- yo scores of the players were not made public.
Irrespective of Kohli’s scores, the status of his neck injury will decide his availability for the Ireland T20 Internationals, on June 27 to 29.
The tour of England, comprising three T20s, three one- dayers and five Test matches, starts July 3.
