A 26- year- old engineer was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly strangulating his wife to death and then chopping her body into pieces in Southeast Delhi’s Sarita Vihar area, the police said.

The accused, identified as Sajid Ali Ansari, had frequent fights with his 26- year- old wife over his unemployment. He had recently become friends with another woman and wanted to get rid of her, the police said.

Sajid Ali Ansari’s brothers — Ishteyaque Alam Ansari ( 28) and Hasmat Ali Ansari ( 46) — were also arrested in connection with the incident.

On June 21, the police found the body of a woman chopped into seven pieces in Sarita Vihar. The carton was packed with the help of tape and plastic rope and bore the mark of a Movers and Packers Company. The face of the woman had been disfigured.

The police team traced the address of the Movers and Packers Company to Gurgaon. It was found that the consignment was delivered from Sharjah ( UAE) to one Javed, a resident of Aligarh ( UP).

Upon interrogation, Javed revealed he was living in a flat in Shaheen Bagh in Jamia Nagar. He further stated he used to work in Sharjah. In December 2017, he left the job and returned to India. He contacted the office of the Movers and Packers Company to deliver his things to India. His consignment was delivered to his house at Jamia Nagar on February 5.

He added that he had rented out this flat to Sajid and his brother Ishtiyaque on March 22.

After tracking the case, police zeroed in on Sajid Ali on the basis of technical surveillance and local inputs. He was nabbed from his brother Hasmat Ali’s house.

During interrogation, Sajid confessed that in 2010 he met one Juhi from Champaran. In 2014, they both married and had two kids.

On the night of June 20, Sajid quarrelled with his wife and strangulated her. Later, he called his brother Ishtiyaque and told him about his act. The two chopped the body into pieces. Subsequently, they told their elder brother Hasmat Ali Ansari about it, who helped them dispose off the body.
