Terrorists kill 2 CRPF jawans in J& K

Srinagar: Two CRPF jawans were killed and one injured in a militant attack in J& K’s Anantnag district on Friday. A civilian was also injured when militants opened fire on a CRPF team deployed on law and order duty.

Two Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF) jawans were killed and two others and also a civilian were injured in a militant ambush in Achabal area of Jammu and Kashmir’s southern Anantnag district on Friday.

Lashkar- e- Tayyaba ( LeT) claimed responsibi­lity and threatened carrying out more such attacks against the security forces across Kashmir in coming days.

The officials said that a patrol of the CRPF came under rifle fire from militants at the main square of Achabal, 9- km from district headquarte­rs of Anantnag. Assistant Sub- Inspector ML Meena was killed on the spot whereas one of the three jawans identified as Sondeep succumbed to his injuries in hospital. A local shopkeeper identified as Ghulam Rasool was also injured in the shooting.

The police said that the CRPF personnel were on law and order duty in the area when attacked. Soon after the attack, the security forces’ reinforcem­ents laid siege to the area to conduct searches but no arrests had been made till reports last came in.

Meanwhile, J& K’s Director General of Police, Shesh Paul Vaid, while referring to unabated killing of protesters during counterins­urgency operations in the Valley on Friday, renewed his appeal to the youth of Kashmir Valley not to rush towards encounter sites.
