Trump: I have low expectations
Helsinki stir over ‘ man- baby & evil spy’ summit today
Turnberry, Scotland, July 15: US President Donald Trump said he had low expectations for the Monday summit with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin just days after 12 Russian intelligence officers were charged by a federal grand jury for hacking the Democrats ahead of the 2016 election.
The summit, which has evoked protests in the Finnish capital, has alarmed some Nato allies who fear Mr Putin might seek a grand deal that undermines the US- led transatlantic alliance.
Mr Trump told CBS in an interview in Turnberry that “nothing bad” would come out of the summit with Mr Putin.
“I go in with low expectations,” Mr Trump told CBS. “I’m not going with high expectations.”
When asked by CBS if he would ask Mr Putin to extradite to the US the 12 charged Russian intelligence, Mr Trump said he hadn’t thought of that idea but that he might. Russia’s constitution forbids the extradition of its own citizens
On the eve of the summit, protesters denounced the meeting of a “man- baby” and “evil spy” — as they identified Mr Trump and Mr Putin respectively. More than 2,000 protesters condemned attacks on human rights, press freedom and dissent as they marched to Helsinki’s central Senate Square. “Whiny demented man- baby meets evil master spy. What could go wrong?” read one banner made by a Finnish woman.
