TV COMMENTATOR IRKS AZARENKA
The former world no. 1 and twotime Grand Slam champion reached mixed doubles final with Jamie Murray after beating Britons Jay Clarke and Harriet Dart 6- 2, 6- 2.
However despite the win she wasn’t too happy when she watched back her performance and heard what John Inverdale had to say.
She posted via Twitter: “We are just rewatching our mixed doubles now… who ever is commentating this match is just comical and not in a good way…”
Azarenka then went on to upload a video 20 minutes later captioned with a laughing face emoji, says the Sun.
The video showed her nodding sarcastically along with Inverdale describing the “most convincing service she’s had in a long time”.
Speaking about the incident Azarenka said: “I think it was more irony in my tweet, I don’t think it is frustration, I think it is pretty amazing that there are people who are not so knowledgeable commentating on the tennis.
“I will leave you with what he said: ‘ Azarenka’s second serve: woof ’ I have no idea. It was horrendous.”
This is not the first time that 60- year- old Inverdale has sparked controversy with his commentating either. In 2013 he was forced to apologise for his “ham- fisted comments” after commenting that the Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli “was never going to be a looker”.
