■ The national capital has been put on high alert following intelligence inputs that Pakistan- based terror outfit JeM and Khalistani terrorists plot to launch an Independence Day terror attack in the city. Delhi police chief Amulya Patnaik also held a meeting to chart out a series of measures to prevent such attack.

According to sources, intelligence agencies have warned of a possible terror attack led by Pakistan based Jaish- e- Mohammed ( JeM) ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Further, the intelligence agencies have received an input suggesting that two Khalistani terrorists are planning to target Parliament House. In the wake of the input, the national capital has been put under a multi- layer security blanket. The intel suggested that the terrorists will arrive in Delhi in an explosives laden white Innova bearing UP registration number.

The terrorists have been identified as Lakhwinder Singh and Parminder Singh ( both in their late 40s). The duo, headed towards Delhi from Nepal border, has received training in assembling IEDs ( improvised explosive device).

Following the inputs of intelligence agencies, DCP Patnaik held a high- level meeting in Mata Sundri College, which was attended by top officers. The meeting focused on foiling terror attacks and adopt anti- terror measures in the national capital.

In this meeting, anti- terror measures during the Independence Day were the main subject of discussion. Intelligence agencies said that there could be chaos spread by terror organisation.

“The terrorists could adopt a new style for the terror attacks. These terrorists, in the guise of plumbers or electricians, can execute their plans of attack. They can also find houses with cheap rent, do a recce of Delhi, and then do something big. Furthermore, terrorists could get SIM cards on fake addresses and identities,” sources said.

After receiving this information, the police has ordered to check all sewer lines, manholes, doors and windows that open towards the road connecting Rajpath and Red Fort.

However, a senior police official said it was a routine practise which happened before August 15 and January 26.
