Trump hits out at Cohen over hush money tape

-

New York, July 25: President Donald Trump lashed out at Michael D. Cohen, his long- time personal lawyer, Wednesday after CNN aired a tape in which the pair discussed how to hush up allegations that he had an affair with a Playboy model.

“What kind of a lawyer would tape a client? So sad! Is this a first, never heard of it before?” Mr Trump tweeted.

“Why was the tape so abruptly terminated ( cut) while I was presumably saying positive things? I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped — can this be so? Too bad!”

On the tape, Mr Trump and Mr Cohen talk about buying the rights to Playboy model Karen McDougal’s story, which she had sold a month earlier to the National Enquirer for $ 150,000. The tabloid never published the story.

McDougal, 1998 Playmate of the Year, had claimed she had an affair with Mr Trump in 2006, shortly after Melania gave birth to their son, Barron.

During the campaign, the Trump team denied any knowledge of the deal between McDougal and American Media.

Washington, July 25: President Donald Trump has said the US is ready to make a “real deal” with Iran over its nuclear programme, days after he warned Tehran of historic consequences for threatening America.

Trump in May pulled the US out of the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement struck by the Obama administration by calling it the “the worst” deal ever negotiated.

Addressing the national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Trump said his administration stands ready for Iran to come back to the negotiating table. “I withdrew the United States from the horrible one- sided Iran nuclear deal,” he said.

Iran, as a result of his decision, is not the same country any more, he asserted. “That I can say. And we’ll see what happens, but we’re ready to make a real deal, not the deal that was done by the previous administration, which was a disaster,” he said.

Trump on Sunday sent a tweet to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, saying “Never, ever threaten the united states again or you will suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before.”

The tweet was apparently in response to comments Rouhani made that day cautioning Trump about the devastation of a US- Iran wartime conflict. He also pressured Trump to not interfere with his government. Meanwhile, US Defence Secretary James Mattis said it was time Tehran shaped up and behaved responsibly.
