Sindhu not losing sleep over loss in finals
New Delhi, July 25: A title has eluded P. V. Sindhu this season despite three summit appearances but the Indian ace says she is undeterred by the heartbreak and will aim for a fresh start in the upcoming World Championship in China and the Asian Games in Indonesia.
Sindhu has been in impressive form ever since grabbing the silver at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Last year, she won three titles out of the six finals that she reached.
However, loss in the finals in World Championship, Hong Kong Open and Dubai Super Series Final pegged her back.
This year too she has reached the summit clash at the India Open, the Commonwealth Games and the Thailand Open but failed to cross the final hurdle, prompting many critics to once again describe her as the “perennial bridesmaid”.
“I know sometimes I have been losing in the finals. See there are always negatives and positives. When you lose in the quarterfinals or semifinals, you actually learn a lot from those mistakes. You well but sometimes can’t get through Sindhu said. play you it,”
MIRABAI HOPEFUL Weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu is in a race against time to get fit for the Asian Games. World champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Chanu says her lower back injury is not as bad as she first thought and she would need two weeks of training to be ready.
“I am confident that in two weeks I can prepare well for the Asian Games. The pain started around May 25. I travelled to several places including New Delhi and Mumbai for treatment but the doctors are not able to diagnose the injury. All tests have come normal, the X- rays also don’t show anything,” Mirabai said.
ARJUNA AWARDS FUNCTION ON SEPT. 25 The sports ministry is open to the idea of considering outstanding performers of next month’s Asian Games for this year’s national sports awards, which will be held on September 25 instead of the conventional August 29 to ensure that athletes don’t miss out due to their participation in the continental showpiece.
