SHO held over bid to ‘ settle’ Unitech cases

The CBI on Tuesday arrested a Delhi police SHO posted at Saket and an advocate for alleged bribe exchange of ` 2 lakh to manage court- referred cases related to Unitech Ltd and also booked the real estate firm’s founder Ramesh Chandra in connection with the case. The agency has also booked another senior Delhi police officer, Sanjay Sharma, in this case.

Delhi Police suspended SHO Neeraj Kumar with immediate effect. “Kumar has been put under suspension with immediate effect. Besides, Delhi police has also ordered a vigilance enquiry against him. We have adopted zero tolerance towards corruption and aberrations,” said a Delhi police spokesperson.

The Saket court had referred 47 cases related to the Unitech Ltd to Saket police station for probe.

According to sources there are allegation that the firm was making regular payment to the SHO to “manage” these cases.

Acting on a tip off, a CBI team on Tuesday carried out searches and found advocate Neeraj Walia paying ` 2 lakh as bribe to SHO Neeraj Kumar allegedly on behalf of Unitech Ltd. Both were arrested.

The agency has registered FIR against nine accused — eight individuals and the real estate firm Unitech Ltd, sources said.

In addition to two arrested accused, the agency has also named promoter of Unitech Ramesh Chandra, Ajay Chandra Upma Chandra, Seema Manga, Pradeep Kumar and another police officer Sanjay Sharma.
