Amid the raging controversy over the NRC issue, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Wednesday demanded that the government should identify and evict Rohingyas and Bangladeshis living illegally in the national capital.

Claiming that the Rohingyas and Bangladeshis were depriving the poor of their rights across the country and in the national capital, Mr Tiwari, who is also a BJP MP from Northeast Delhi, in a letter to Union home minister Rajnath Singh demanded that the identification and deportation of illegal foreign national residing in the Delhi should done on a priority basis. Drawing the home minister’s attention over the contentious issue, Mr Tiwari said: “Thousands of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis are illegally residing in the Delhi. They have also obtained ration and Aadhaar cards with the help of local administration.”

He added that that the issue should be “probed”.

Mr Tiwari, in his letter, stated that the “illegal immigrants were also indulging in various criminal activities”. For him, “their presence in the national capital poses a serious threat to law and order issue”.

Appreciating Mr Singh’s statement in Parliament on the National Register of Citizens ( NRC) issue, Mr Tiwari urged him to “identify and deport these illegal immigrants at the earliest”.

The Delhi BJP president stated that “Bangladeshi infiltrators have been living in Delhi over past few decades” and “time and gain efforts to identify and deport them have failed following non- cooperation of the local administration.”

Mr Tiwari is also expected to write a similar letter to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. Earlier in the day, Mr Tiwari said that the Delhi government must act to ensure eviction of illegal migrants.

“The Delhi government should identify and ensure action against Rohingyas and Bangladeshis living illegally in different parts of the city,” the Delhi BJP chief said.
