Conference to discuss use of GPS in NCR school buses
In the backdrop of safety issues of students in school buses, a conference here focused on educating schools on the use of GPS devices and onboard cameras in all school buses to ensure safety, as notified by CBSE.
The conference — the first school connect conclave, titled “Aavekshan”, was organised by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers ( Siam), the apex body of the automobile industry, along with the ministry of road transport and highways ( MoRTH) and Delhi traffic police.
As per revised guidelines issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education in February this year, school buses are to have to be equipped with GPS, CCTV arrangements, and speed governors and the discussion called for stricter implementation to ensure safer transportation of children.
The event saw participation from people like Neeti Sarkar, CEO, NATRiP, Sutanu Behuria, former secretary, ministry of heavy industries, along with representatives from SIAM, MoRTH, Delhi traffic police and various schools from Delhi NCR. Commenting on the topic of safety, Naveen Soni, President, SAFE ( Society for Automotive Fitness) said, “It is of utmost importance that the automobile industry along with government and Delhi traffic police come together to ensure safety for school children. Our objective is to actively engage schools and thus educate the students on various aspects of safety. GPS based vehicle tracking devices are an integral part of any business. Schools specially are switching to GPS systems in order to enhance the safety of children.”
Neeti Sarkar, CEO of NATRiP, said that imparting training on GPS to various stakeholders is paramount.
