The East Delhi Municipal Corporation ( EDMC) on Friday signed a concession agreement with A. G. Dauters to create energy from the waste at Ghazipur landfill site.

Through this waste, the corporation plans to create electricity, water and zero carbon fuel. During the signing of agreement, mayor of East Delhi Bipin Bihari Singh, leader of house Nirmal Jain, standing committee member Rajiv Kumar, EDMC commissioner Dr Ranbir Singh, and additional commissioner Ms Alka Sharma were present along with other senior officials of the corporation.

As per the agreement, the EDMC will provide three acres of land to A. G. Dauters, where the company will set up its plant for the creation of energy. The plant would be consuming 1500 MT waste on daily basis and would be producing 560 MW green energy, 4.75 lakh litres of water and two lakh litre of zero carbon fuel.

This would be India’s first plant for creating energy with zero carbon emission and zero residue.

“The corporation is working out all possibilities for utilising the solid waste at the Ghazipur landfill site. This agreement is also a part of this initiative. It’s a first step towards utilising the waste and turn it into energy without adversely impacting the environment. This is solution to all our waste- related problems,” said Mr Singh.

Commissioner Dr Singh said that this plant would be starting as a pilot and after successful running of the project till one year, the EDMC may extend the agreement for 21 years.

“Also, the EDMC would be replicating this model at other sites as well,” he added.
