Holographic smartphone within grasp?

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Over the past one year, camera manufacturer RED has been teasing a smartphone with the world’s first holographic display. RED also gave a demonstration of the working prototype to selected people a few months ago. However, it seems that they are now ready to make the product commercial within the next few weeks as the Hydrogen has passed the Federal Communications Commission ( FCC) certifications.

And whilst passing the certifications, the chaps at Phone Scoop have got hold of certain features and photos of the device from the certificates.

Similar to the teaser image unveiled by RED a year ago, the Hydrogen boasts of a rugged industrial design. The edges have a grooved pattern, which could be there to enhance the grip. A USB- C port is confirmed alongside a 3.5mm headphone jack. The front features a thick forehead and chin, with slim bezels to the sides. There’s also a dual front camera setup resting alongside the earpiece. The rear contains the same multi- pattern panel, with the pogo pin slots for all the detachable modules and dual rear camera setup.

The Hydrogen’s 5.7- inch display will support both traditional stereo 3D ( 3D content without glasses) as well as RED’s Hydrogen 4- View ( H4V) format. The cameras will be able to shoot H4V content as well. The certification reveals that the Hydrogen will rely on a 4510mAh battery and will support most of the LTE bands in the US, excluding Band- 71.

Considering the technology it houses, RED is expected to price it well above the $ 1,000 mark. Several US carriers such as AT& T and Verizon have officially announced to sell the device on their network.
