BJP to observe Aug. 15- 31 as social justice fortnight

A day after Parliament gave its nod to the to a bill granting constitutional status to the backward classes commission and is expected to soon pass another bill to restore the original provisions of the SC/ ST ( Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the ongoing monsoon session will be remembered as a “session of social justice” and asked the BJP leaders to observe a “social justice fortnight” from August 15- 31. The BJP has also decided to mark August 1- 9 from next year as the “social justice week”.
A day after Parliament gave its nod to a bill seeking Constitutional status to the backward classes commission, it is likely to pass another bill to restore the orginal SC/ ST atrocity law.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the ongoing monsoon session will be remembered as a “session of social justice” and asked the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders to observe a “social justice fortnight” from August 15- 31.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has also decided to mark August 1- 9 from next year as the “social justice week.” Addressing the BJP parliamentary party, the Mr Modi invoked ‘ August Kranti’, named so as Mahatama Gandhi launched the Quit India movement in this month in 1942, as he spoke about the “historic” significance of the bills passed in this month by Parliament.
The BJP parliamentary party also felicitated the Prime Minister for the “historic Bill” giving Constitutional status to National Commission for Backward Classes. Parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar, who briefed the media later, said the Prime Minister recalled that in his speech following the BJP’s victory in the 2014 polls he had said his government would be dedicated to the poor, villages and backward sections of society and these bills underline this commitment.
BJP leaders have been asked to highlight Modi government’s initiatives for the backwards, SC and STs. A resolution was also passed in the meeting to hail Mr Modi’s leadership following the passage of the bills.
Later in the day, the BJP accused the Congress of being “anti- dalit and antitribal” after the Rajya Sabha got adjourned following TMC members trooping into the well of the House minutes after BJP president Amit Shah started speaking on the agrarian crisis.
The House’s agenda had included a debate on a bill to strengthen a law on atrocities.
