A tribute to the inspiring souls whose lives were not less than any revolution and who with their lives ignited the cause of freedom.

1 She left her home and went undergroun­d and set up India’s first radio station, the Secret Congress Radio. The heroic venture during the Quit India movement left the British hapless. It gave an account of the activities and played the recorded voices of Gandhi and other leaders when there was strict censorship. Identify.

2 This visionary hailed as the ‘ Johnny Appleseed of the Himalayas’ was born in a wealthy Quaker family in America and fought for Indian Freedom. He travelled to India to serve leprosy patients in Shimla and devoted himself to the Indian cause. He joined the Congress and was the sole American to sign the Congress manifesto in 1921. Identify.

3 She is one of the greatest warriors of Assam. In 1942, a resolution was taken to hoist the national flag at the court and police station. She walked with the national flag as the leader and led the procession until she was shot. She kept on holding the flag until the last. Identify.

4 She was married to a revolution­ary and was close to Mahatma Gandhi and Chandrashe­khar Azad. She began supporting Azad by secretly carrying messages. She was a part of the infamous Kakori train robbery conspiracy and was given the charge of delivering firearms. Identify.

5 He is revered as a martyr in Tamil Nadu and is known by the epithet ‘ Kodikatha Kumaran’ — who saved the flag since he gave his life defending the Indian Nationalis­ts Flag. He was killed during a protest march against the arrest of Mahatma Gandhi in 1932. He was found dead holding the flag. Identify.
