Congress plans stir against govt

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The Congress on Saturday decided to launch a monthlong, countrywide agitation to expose the Modi government on its alleged corruption and scams including the Rafale fighter jet deal in which it has demanded an investigation by a joint parliamentary committee. In a meeting chaired by the Congress president Rahul Gandhi of the state unit chiefs and office bearers of the AICC in the national capital, the plan was finalised. Speaking to reporters after the meeting Congress communications chief Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “It was decided that corruption, scams of the Modi government particularly the Rafale scam will be taken to people of India. In the next 30 days, Congress workers will do district and state- level demonstrations. We will ensure a fair probe, independent probe and that a JPC is constituted immediately. We will not be deterred and pushed back.”

The plan of the Congress is to hold almost hundred press conferences across the country on the issue of Rafale jet deal. The party feels that this deal has caused a ` 41,000 crores of loss to the exchequer. Mr. Gandhi has also set- up a six- member task force to take on the BJP over the Rafale deal.

The members of the taskforce reflect a mixture of the old and the new entrants in the grand old party. The members will function under the supervision of Mr Surjewala. Other members are Jaipal Reddy, Shakti Sinh Gohil, Arjun Modhwadia, Pawan Khera, Priyanka Chaturvedi and Jaiveer Shergill.
