Qureshi new foreign minister, Khattak bags defence ministry

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday approved 20- member cabinet comprising 15 federal ministers and five advisors.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been appointed as the new foreign minister and Pervez Khattak as the defence minister. Mr Qureshi has previously headed the foreign ministry during the Pakistan People’s Party’s term — 2008- 2013. He had resigned in 2011 after developing difference­s with the PPP leadership and joined the PTI.

Pakistan Tehreek- e- Insaf ( PTI) spokespers­on Fawad Chaudhry said the 20member Cabinet will take oath on Monday.

As anticipate­d, Asad Umar has been awarded ministry of finance whereas Awami Muslim League ( AML) chief Sheikh Rashid has been declared as Mr Khan’s Railways Minister.

Fawad Chaudhry has been nominated minister of Informatio­n and Broadcasti­ng Division. Frmer Khyber Pakhtunkhw­a’s chief minister Pervez Khattak has been given portfolio of defence ministry.

Other the cabinet s members are: Farogh Naseem ( Law and Justice), Tariq Bashir Cheema ( Safron), Shireen Mazari ( Human Rights), Ghulam Sarwar Khan ( Petroleum), Zubaida Jalal ( Defence Production), Aamir Mehmood Kiyani ( Health), Shah Mahmood Qureshi ( Foreign Affairs), Fehmida Mirza ( Inter Provincial Coordinati­on), Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui ( IT), Shafqat Mahmood ( Education) and Noorul Haq Qadri ( Religious Affairs).

Five advisers are Mohammad Shehzad, Ishrat Hussain, Abdul Razzak Dawood, Amin Aslam and Babar Awan.

Earlier, in the presence of his veiled wife Bushra Maneka, Pakistan TehrikeIns­af ( PTI) chief Imran Khan was sworn in as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan. A lot of dignitarie­s including Indian cricketer- turned- politician Navjot Singh Sidhu attended the event.
