HP Ink Tank Wireless 419: Ideal for homes and offices

- FRANCIS D’SA

Ink is its main ingredient and most expensive need for printers today. Ink tank printers mark a difference as the ink can be refilled by users themselves. HP’s Ink Tank Wireless 419 is an all- inone printing solution that allows users to wirelessly scan, print and copy at a very economical cost.

Four large translucent tanks or reservoirs for ink and the user can physically see the level of ink remaining within each tank. While the black tank can hold up to 80ml of ink, the colour tanks can each hold 70ml of ink. Simply keep a watch on each tank level and refill them before they get empty to avoid air bubbles or ink drying damaging the pipes and heads.

The control panel consists of nine icon- based touch buttons and a simple LCD display. The printer ships with a two- year supply of ink, which is its best USP. Two head cartridges ( one for black and colour each) along with five bottles of ink ( two large black and three regular colour) are bundled with the printer. Each colour bottle is 70ml, while there are two black ink bottles of 170ml each. Each bottle of ink should cost you around Rs 400 — Rs 500 on average.

The printer prints and copies with above- average speeds. Initial copy takes around 14 seconds for black and 18 seconds for colour, and subsequent copies take a shorter time. Scanning speeds are 21 seconds per A4 page. With the ink shipped with the 419, one can expect up to 8,000 pages in colour and a whopping 15,000 pages in black, bringing the cost of printing at an average of 10 paise per page. The printer can print regular black and colour documents as well as full borderless colour photos. Photos printed are vibrant and great in quality. The inks used here is Dye- based ( for colour) and pigment- based ( for black), which are said to be smudge resistant and water- proof with a longer age, provided it’s used with recommended stationary. Print resolutions are 1200 x 1200 dpi in black and up to 4800 x 1200 dpi in colour.

The chic aesthetics, user- friendly and costeffective ink refills and low cost per print are the mains USP of the printer, and we would recommend this model for most homes and SMEs. For Rs 13,999 with an average 2- year ink supply, the printer is a great value for money.
