Take a shine to neons

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Neon, that was once considered too bright to be elegant or formal, is becoming a must in the wardrobes of all celebrities. From Kim Kardashian to Alia Bhatt, all have made their neon appearances in recent times.

Talking about the trend, designer Gautam Gupta says, “Neons have been flirting around for a while as pastels and nude were more on trend in the last 3 to 4 years. Also, fashion is cyclic and now neons are slowly taking their turf. Celebrities, especially in casual wear, are donning sport- influenced silhouettes and neon looks very interesting in it. Neon yellow, tangerine, fuchsia pink, electric blue, fluorescent green are some of the neons one can see in trend.”

Adding to it, Nidhi Yadav, Creative Head and Founder, AKS Clothings, shares, “In 2013 Priyanka Chopra walked in a neon green and orange saree, and it redefined the fusion of neon at Lakme Fashion Week. Since then, the combination is being adapted by several fashion designers for designing classy saris, suits, and other Indo- western dresses. Also, in the current Bollywood vogue, celebrities boldly pair pastel- coloured choli with embroidered neon ghagra for a perfect traditional yet modern look.” Designer Ashima Sharma and founder of Ashima S Couture too feels that neons are here to stay, “The neon trend is a trend to stay because the shades can be used in makeup as well, neon lipsticks are a delight and can be seen very often on celebs. Neon statement jewellery and footwear are also hugely popular. Out of all the neon shades, the most trending ones are neon yellow which can be seen in swimwear too, then comes neon pinks, orange and reds. The neon red lip shades are loved by most celebs and is often seen in red carpet appearances.” Bandana Sondhi, model and fashion expert, feels that anyone who opts for these colours wants to make a strong fashion statement, and says, “Neon orange, green and yellow have been all- time favourites and now celebrities from all across the world are wearing entire outfits of one neon colour. A pantsuit in neon green makes for quite a bold choice. A dress in neon orange make heads turn for sure. These are colours which give the message out to the world at large that the person wearing them is happy and bright. Wearing neon colours is not for the faint- hearted and only fashion- forward people go for such colours.”
