- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A 27- year- old woman was arrested for strangling her 7month- old child to death in Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin area as she thought that the infant was the cause behind every problem in their family. To cover up the murder, the mother put the infant’s body in a water filled bucket to make it look like she died due to drowning, said DCP ( Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal on Saturday. The arrested accused was identified as Adiba ( 27). The DCP said that they received information on August 20 regarding a 7- month- old girl child being brought dead to Moolchand Hospital by her father and Adiba. Upon inquiry, the parents stated that the girl had drowned in a water bucket at home. Prima facie it appeared that the infant’s neck had doubtful marks. Immediately, the body was shifted to AIIMS mortuary for a post- mortem. The autopsy reports stated the cause of death to be “fatal pressure over the neck.” Thereafter, a murder case was lodged. The victim’s father, who works as a tailor, said that he had married Adiba one and half years ago. On the day of the incident, he was at his shop when his wife informed him about the incident. As per the post- mortem report, there was no water in the internal organs of the deceased. There were contradictions in the version stated by Adiba and she was the only person present at home. After she was interrogated, she confessed of murdering her daughter. She was of the opinion that since her daughter’s birth, the entire family was facing medical and financial problems. She considered her death the only solution for eliminating their financial crunch.
