IIT- BHU course for brides- to- be
Men don’t need any training in anxiety management, says official
Lucknow: In an interesting development, the IIT in Banaras Hindu University is developing a new three month course, specially designed for new brides. The new course, “Daughters’ Pride — Beti Mera Abhimaan”, has been conceptualised by the Malviya Nav Parivartan Kendra.
The IIT in the Banaras Hindu University ( BHU) has announced a new three- month course designed especially for new brides.
Called “Daughters’ Pride — Beti Mera Abhimaan”, the course has been conceptualised to help brides to be with their self- confidence that’ll come in handy while in dealing with members in the new family, problem solving skills, stress handling, mannerism and fashion skills, as well as computer and social media training. The course has been initiated by Young Skilled India start- Up that is incubated with the Malviya Nav Parivartan Kendra of IIT- BHU.
Neeraj Srivastava, CEO of Young Skilled India said, “Young girls on the verge of marriage often are saddled with complexes which makes it difficult for them to adjust in a new household. This course teaches them how to make adjustments and deal with situations.”
Counsellors, he said, will try and address girls’ questions regarding marriage, balancing marriage and career and also avoiding clashes in the family. “The way in which we have worked out the syllabus will help the brides- to- be to become confident of a new life that often changes life completely for them. There is flexibility of syllabus and we will address issues that trouble the students more. The brides, on one hand, have to build up a relationship with the husband and, on the other, adjust to multiple relationships in the new environment,” said Mr Srivastava.
Neither the start- up nor IIT- BHU think it necessary to have a similar course for men who are preparing for marriage, nor is the course co- ed.
Speaking with this newspaper, Mr Srivastava said he doesn’t think that men, even the ones about to get married, need to be counselled on their interpersonal and communication skills, nor do they need any training in problem- solving and anxiety management.
When asked why young men on the threshold of marriage didn’t need a cash course in how to behave with their wives, the CEO parried the question.
“At the moment, we have only this course in mind,” he added.
