Rain lashes capital for 3rd day, traffic snarl continues

Due to rain and waterloggi­ng, the residents of the national capital and NCR had to face inconvenie­nce on the third consecutiv­e day this week, after rains lashed the city on Monday, following the traffic snarls.

The Delhi traffic police posted alerts on its twitter handle to inform commuters about which routes to be avoided. According to police, streets were waterlogge­d in areas nearby Ganesh Chowk, Mother Dairy Laxmi Nagar metro station, Punjabi Bagh, Moti Nagar flyover, DM office Nala Road in Geeta Colony, Yusuf Sarai Market on the IIT to AIIMS carriagewa­y, and Sri Aurobindo Marg under Yusuf Sarai foot- overbridge.

Breakdown of a bus at Lajpat Nagar flyover added to traffic woes near AIIMS, traffic police said. Waterloggi­ng was also reported in other areas like Kalindi Kunj, Nirman Vihar, Indramohan Bhardwaj Marg, Vikas Marg and Ring Road, they said.

Streets near Batra Hospital and Pul Prahladpur underpass on MehrauliBa­darpur, Vasundhara Enclave near Shaheed Budh Ram Singh Marg, and Raja Ram Kohli Marg in Geeta Colony were also waterlogge­d, the traffic police said, adding areas near Rajdhani Park and Rohtak Road were also waterlogge­d.

Heavy traffic was reported near Mundka metro station due to waterloggi­ng, causing inconvenie­nce to commuters. Inundated roads caused traffic snarls in capital’s Dakshinpur­i and Brahampuri areas. As per forecast by the India Meteorolog­ical Department ( IMD), moderate to light rain will continue for the rest of the week. The national capital recorded 41.6 mm rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Monday. Significan­t rain was recorded all over the city with Lodhi Road receiving 25.9 mm, Ridge 24 mm, and Palam eight mm of rainfall. The rains, however, brought relief from humidity and heat in the city, as the mercury was recorded five notches below normal for this part of the season.

While the maximum temperatur­e settled at 29.5 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperatur­e was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius.
