Two gangsters arrested after shootout in Alipur

Bulletproo­f jackets save life of two policemen

A shootout took place between policemen and aides of Tillu Tajpura gang in the early hours of Wednesday in outer Delhi’s Alipur area. Three accused were arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police following a shootout and one of them has been rushed to the hospital with a bullet injury, said DCP ( special cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

The police has identified the arrested accused as Manjit ( 23), Nitish ( 21) and Mahesh ( 25). The trio are shooters of the Tillu gang, Mr Yadav said. Manjit, who was arrested earlier, was wanted in the murder case of Narela area in which Arman, who was a member of the rival Gogi Gang, was shot down, the police said.

Based on the informatio­n extracted from him, a trap was laid at the Budhpur road and at about 5.05 am, a whitecolou­red scooter that was coming from GT Karnal Road was stopped, a senior officer said.

The DCP said that the two gang members, who were riding the scooter, tried to escape and when the police chased them, they started firing indiscreet­ly. In retaliatio­n, the police fired back and in the process one accused, Nitish, got hurt and injured his right leg, while the other named Mahesh, was apprehende­d without injury, the officer added.

Their bullet hit two cops in chest, however, no police officer was injured since they were wearing bulletproo­f jackets, he added.

The injured gangster has been shifted to Raja Harishchan­dra Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Three country- made pistol have been recovered from them, the police said.
