A group of miscreants assaulted a couple in the capital city’s Nizamuddin area on Monday. After a video of the brutal assault started doing rounds on social media, the Delhi police on Wednesday launched a probe into the matter and an investigation is currently underway.

In the video, a group of three men can be seen thrashing a burqa- clad woman and her husband mercilessly amid what seems to be a market. Though in the video the couple is seen being physically hounded by the miscreants in broad daylight, not even a single person came to rescue the couple.

DCP ( southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said, a PCR call was received on Monday informing about the quarrel at Nizamuddin area. When the police reached at the spot, they found both the parties injured. The police then took both the parties to AIIMS Trauma Center in the PCR van.

It was later discovered that a fight broke out in two groups who are being said, were, family rivals.

In one group there were 2 women and 2 men. Whereas in the other group there were 2 women and 3 men.

Biswal said that both the parties have had enemity in the past and the quarrel has got nothing to do with their profession.

In view of the tension between them, a preventive action was taken and cases has been registered.

Both the parties have alleged filed charges against each other on quarrel, injury, and molesting women, he added.

Police officials familiar with the case, told media that the incident took place when the woman was out for grocery shopping.

After the accused men allegedly harassed her, she called her husband who arrived at the spot as soon as he could.

Once he reached the scene, a fight ensued between the husband and the miscreants, which led to the latter thrashing the former in full public view.

According to reports, both the involved parties have registered FIRs against each other. While one side is crying harassment, the other claims that the assault was the result of a family feud.
