AIIMS resident doctors have requested Asian Games gold medallist Swapna Barman to come to the premier institute for her treatment of tooth infection and back pain.

The Resident Doctors' Association ( RDA) of AIIMS took to Twitter to invite the heptathlon champion for free of cost treatment at the hospital.

Barman has to undergo a series of medical tests and may opt for surgery if required on her lower back, her coach Subhas Sarkar had said last week.

"We invite nation's pride Swapna Barman, the first ever heptathlon champion in Asian Games, to AIIMS for treatment of tooth infection & back pain. You gave smile on the face of millions of Indians, now it's our turn to make you smile without pain and suffering ( sic)," the RDA wrote on Twitter.

Barman, who became the first Indian heptathlete to win a gold in the Asian Games, had said she was carrying injuries while competing in

Jakarta.

She has been having problems at her lumbar ( lower back) region since the 2017 Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar where she had won a gold and was also carrying minor knee injuries.

“Around 2,000 Resident Doctors of AIIMS from different departments, including Dental, will help her in all possible ways for best free of cost treatment here,” said Harjit Singh Bhatti, President, RDA, AIIMS.
