100 cases of dengue recorded in one week

Nearly 100 cases of dengue were recorded in the city in the last one week, indicating a sharp jump in the number of patients with the vector- borne disease in just seven days.

While the total number of dengue cases this year till September 8 stood at 147, it rose to 243 by Saturday, as per a report released by municipal authorities on Monday. By September 8, only 30 fresh cases of dengue were reported, according to the report released by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation ( SDMC), which tabulates data on vector- borne diseases for the entire city.

Of the total 243 dengue cases, 136 were reported in September, 58 in August, 19 were reported in July, six in January, three in February, one in March, two in April, 10 in May, and eight in June. Meanwhile, 30 fresh cases of malaria were recorded from September 9- 15 in the city, taking the total number of such cases this year to 225.

Two cases of malaria were reported in February, one each in April and March, 17 in May, 25 in June, 42 in July, 82 in August, and 55 in September.

Also, 13 fresh cases of chikungunya were reported. With this, the total number of chikungunya cases recorded till now went up to 60.

The report said domestic breeding checkers found mosquito breeding in 1,57.032 households in the city till September 15. It said 1,34,784 legal notices have been served for various violations and 18,497 prosecutions initiated. The cases of vector- borne diseases are usually reported between July and November.

Doctors have advised people to take all precautions, like wearing full- sleeve clothes and not allowing the breeding of mosquito larvae inside homes.
