Sewer deaths: 2 supervisor­s held

Days after the five men who died in a sewer in Moti Nagar, two more persons have been arrested in the case, said the police on Saturday.

The residentia­l society’s manager D. N. Mishra, who was also the head for JLL ( Jones Lang LaSalle) arrested with another man called Bharat Raj Verma.

Both had close supervisio­n on the operations regarding O& M Of STP. DCP ( West) Monika Bharadwaj has confirmed the arrests and told the reporters here that further investigat­ion in the case is underway.

Police also sent notices to several companies to submit documents, including the contract details of the men who died and other firms who maintain sewers. A few documents have been received, police said.

The fatal accident had occurred on September 9 in which Sarfaraz, Pankaj, Umesh, Vishal and Raja died. All five had gone inside a sewer for the first time.

They were the housekeepi­ng staff with Unnati and had been forced to go down in the sewer by the company, which wanted to save ` 6,000 by not bringing in profession­al sewer cleaners.

The life of all five men were put in harm’s way without any safety gear. When they we- re pulled out, only Vishal was alive, but he too died during treatment.

The incident had occurred at DLF Capital Greens. DLF had given the maintenanc­e contract to JLL, which had further subcontrac­ted the work to six different companies. Unnati was one of them.

The Moti Nagar police station had formed different teams to track the accused. Meanwhile, families of the victims said they are yet to receive compensati­on against their claims.
