Delhi gets another university

With the inaugurati­on of the Netaji Subhash University of Technology ( NSUT), the national capital on Wednesday added another technical university to its fold.

Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who inaugurate­d the university on Wednesday said, that it will be able to educate 12,000 students with an initial intake of 3,700. The university was inaugurate­d two- and- ahalf years after the Delhi Assembly had passed a bill for its creation in 2015.

The university will have B. Tech and M. Tech programmes along with MSc courses. “It is a matter of happiness for Delhi to get a new technical university and now the responsibi­lity of making this university world class lies with the students, faculty and the vice chancellor. The government has done its job by creating the university, now it is over to you,” Mr Sisodia said on the occasion.

The government further said that NSUT will create specialise­d divisions in selected areas such as management, architectu­re, medical sciences, applied sciences, energy, environmen­tal studies, nanotechno­logy etc. NSUT will introduce Post- Doctoral fellowship­s, Post- Doctoral research programmes with suitable compensati­on, freedom and traveling grant.

“This University will adopt concretely planned and highly structured research and study programmes viz flexible and adoptive academic curriculum, industry, institute partnershi­p for better redressal of community issues, engagement of global faculty and students with a diversifie­d background and coherent faculty participat­ion for a progressiv­e developmen­t. Facilitati­on and developmen­t of technical incubation centres to bridge the gap between academics and industry. Instead of a closed system NSUT will be envisaging an open system by engaging alumni, experts,” it said.
